My cannabis journey began in 2013. I was losing faith in the pharmaceutical options I was prescribed for my back and knee pain, so I sought out other alternatives. I smoked for the first time at the age of eighteen and quickly realized that my perception of cannabis had been significantly warped by those around me. For the first time in my life, I felt relief from the pain that plagued me relentlessly every day. I was comfortably off my feet and active for the first time in years, all without the horrid side effects of opiates. This opened several doors for me, the most important of which was exercising. Due to the pain in my back and knees, I couldn’t exercise for most of my early life without experiencing debilitating pain. With my new found freedom of mobility, I was able to return to running and competing in martial arts. Cannabis had truly returned a missing piece of myself.
My favorite way to consume cannabis is in a joint, it just feels right. Bongs and dab rips are nice but, flower is definitely preferred. Nothing quite beats breaking down your own flower and rolling it up so you can enjoy it on a nice walk or on the porch. However, flower can smell pungent and stale so edibles are a great fragrance-free alternative that sometimes can last longer than flower. The edible option is a must for me at family gatherings or when I need to be the incognito cannabis user.
My desired effect from cannabis is pain relief however, if I have a long run planned or want some extra stimuli on a hike, I'll smoke sativa. Durban poison is my favorite strain because for me it acts as a bronchodilator so I can really give 100% of myself to whatever I choose to do. No matter what time of day, it's a strain I can rely on.
My terpene profile is Terpinolene, Myrcene, and Ocimene. The ensemble of those three is an undeniable terpene powerhouse that you can smell a mile away. These are the primary dominant terpenes found in Durban Poison, a landrace strain from the west port of Durban, South Africa. My advice if you're just starting your cannabis journe is to remember the expression "You can always have more, but never less". This applies for any method of cannabis consumption. Don't ruin your experience with your ego, we've all had to start somewhere. I recommend taking your time and gauging your tolerance level before diving in. Keeping a cannabis journal can also be a fun and informative activity early on to help you along your cannabis journey.
